Whenever you turn on Champions League football and Benfica are playing, you are always educated by the commentators about their rich history. I decided to take it upon myself to delve into their past and found 1961 to be a particularly significant season in the European Cup as Real Madrid were finally knocked off their perch. The final wasn’t half bad either. Again, I wanted to develop my writing ability to enable to cover all types of football articles. Crucially, I wanted to write up a piece about a historical game that would actually keep the reader engaged and feel like they have truly learnt something from the article. I didn’t want to simply produce a match report. Fortunately, the article was well received and I must thank BackPageFootball for publishing this.
